The autumn season, in Sicily, is a sweet explosion of Etna Volcano scents and flavours. There are various festivals dedicated to typical products on the villages scattered among the hills.
In Bronte, in Catania, usually, in late September takes place the “Pistachio Festival”, an awesome Green Gold Festival. This high-quality type of dried fruit, with a protected designation of origin D.O.P, takes on particular connotations in terms of colours, aroma and flavour, thanks to the calcareous soils and volcanic substrates. During the festival, Etna’s town turns into a large open-air storefront where you can taste dishes based on pistachio prepared on the spot by Bronte’s expert cooks or buy traditional Sicilian products. There are, also, concerts and artistic performances.
Zafferana Etnea usually hosts for the whole month of October “Ottobrata”, where every Sunday there is a different event dedicated to typical Etna’s products, such as grapes, honey, mushrooms, chestnuts and much more. In all the streets of the village there are many exhibition stands where you can taste local specialties, such as desserts, food preserves, meats and cheeses. To complete the gastronomic experience there are many events, excursions, musical performances and craft markets.
In Floresta, in Messina, the usual event of the month of October is called “Ottobrando” and is mainly dedicated to the products of the Nebrodi Mountains, such as the Black Pig or Provola D.O.P.
In Nicolosi, the autumn weekends until 11 November the event “Perfumes and Flavors of Etna – Taste Etna” is protagonists, with little craft markets in which you can find traditional products and local food and wine.
In Autumn 2020 these events aren’t defined. But you can always find agreeable aromas of Etna enclosed in many delicious sweet- proposals by Nonna Vincenza. Visit the dedicated page in our online shop.
