LaFrutta Martorana
Typical Sicilian Almond pastries
Simple goodness worthy of a king
It is related that this goodness was born in Palermo, in Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio convent, or, also called, Martorana. One day nuns decided to adorn all convent trees with small almond cakes that perfectly remembered all kinds of colourful fruit, so delicious that also the King loved them. Hence the definitions of pasta reale and Martorana fruit. To make this recipe so special Nonna Vincenza uses few simple ingredients, first of all is the original recipe and the colouring is still made by hand to obtain the extraordinary shades of all colour that are present in nature.
